The Witcher 4 Game Is Coming From CDPR – Eventually!

The Witcher 4

Right now everyone is talking about The Witcher TV show from Netflix. However, before that, we had the video games from developers CDPR to keep Witcher fans happy. The most recent Witcher game is one of the top three games I have ever played. Would there be a The Witcher 4 game from CDPR, that’s what fans have wondered? Well, wonder no more, because it looks like the fourth Witcher will be the next game up for the respected game developers.

Polish website Stooq recently spoke to CDPR about Cyberpunk 2077, we got those details via ComicBook.com The massive futuristic RPG is releasing this year and has already had a couple of delays. Adam Kicinski of CDPR also revealed to local journalists in Poland that once Cyberpunk 2077 is released, the team will return to the world of The Witcher. Unfortunately, no other details were given about this fourth Witcher game.

I will definitely be picking up Cyberpunk 2077. Though, I may wait for the next generation of consoles for the ‘best’ version. As for The Witcher, I can’t wait to see what comes next. Witcher fans will have quite the wait though, as CDPR is known for taking around five years to develop a game. This focus on quality is what makes CDPR’s games so good, but they do not move fast.

Although I used the name The Witcher 4 in the title, it’s actually unlikely for the game title. The previous game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt really saw an end to Geralt’s story. By the end of the final DLC, Geralt had essentially retired with (whichever lover you chose) in his own vineyard, fairly wealthy. Fans know what they want to see from a fourth Witcher game, Ciri as the main protagonist instead of Geralt. One of the possible endings for The Witcher 3, was Ciri becoming a Witcher herself. My own playthrough instead saw Ciri as Empress of Niilfgard, which is probably not the canon ending. It is also possible the fourth game could be a prequel, and therefore star Geralt. However, I don’t think a prequel would excite fans as much as a Ciri led sequel.

Going by the popularity and profitability of the previous games, I expect The Witcher 4 to be successful, no matter who it stars. With The Witcher TV show now out there though, the franchise has become entwined in modern pop-culture. CDPR also indicated recently that they have resolved all conflicts with The Witcher author Andrzej Sapkowski. Previously, Sapkowski had been chasing CDPR for a higher cut of the profits from the mega-successful video game series. Since the games take place after Sapkowski’s books, I have always wanted The Witcher TV show to eventually get into the territory of the games for its ending. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt concludes the story of Geralt, Ciri and Yennefer in a way I doubt the show could better.
