Does Thor: Love And Thunder Featuring Guardians Of The Galaxy Mean Big Changes For Vol. 3?

Pratt Hypes Hemsworth In Thor: Love And Thunder

The world of the Guardians of the Galaxy is a bit confusing. If you can believe it, if it weren’t the drama surrounding writer-director James Gunn, Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 would likely be coming out this year. But because of what happened, James Gunn went over to DC to work on The Suicide Squad, pushing back Guardians around three years or so. Needless to say, because of all this, some changes needed to be made.

If you’ll recall, the end of Avengers: Endgame saw Thor flying off with the Guardians of the Galaxy in search of his next big challenge. This implied that the two groups would be working together in the next movie. But, rumors have been shaky at best, with some indicating that the roles would be minimal to nonexistent in each other’s movies. But with Thor: Love and Thunder coming from director Taika Waititi, we can finally get some answers. So…will we see some sort of team-up?

If we’re to take Guardians star Vin Diesel’s word on it, it sounds like that’ll be a resounding yes.

“The director talked to me about how Thor will incorporate some of the Guardians of the Galaxy, which will be very interesting,” Diesel told ComicBook.com. Nobody knows, but maybe I shouldn’t have said anything.”

If you’ll recall, director James Gunn had a finished draft of Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 prior to all the drama. You can only imagine he knew about the status of Thor and that he would have weaved him into the narrative of that third film. With that movie now years away from hitting theaters, does that mean Gunn will have to make sweeping changes to his third movie?

Obviously, it all depends on just how pivotal Thor was in the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3 script. If he was to play a pivotal role, it may need to be assessed whether or not his role would still make sense in this new landscape of the MCU following Thor: Love and Thunder. Hopefully, Gunn will be able to adapt easily without losing the core of his movies. As fun as his Marvel movies are, they are nothing without that care narrative, and that would suck if he needed to completely reshape a film from the ground up thanks to the new MCU.

Regardless, I’m thrilled to see the Asgardians of the Galaxy moving into the next movie. They all had great chemistry in Avengers: Infinity War, and I had an odd fear they’d split up before the dynamic could truly be milked.
