You know, if there’s something that’s been missing from good ol’ ARROW (besides quality), it’s a good Russian villain. Well, it turns out I’m in luck, because at the TV Critics Association press tour, it was announced that Dolph Lundgren, who famously depicted Russian boxer Ivan Drago in ROCKY IV, will be joining ARROW in Season 5 of the show.

The goods don’t stop there, however. Not only will Lundgren be in the series, but he’ll be playing a villain in a flashback set in (wait for it) Russia. I kind of feel sorry for the guy, since he apparently will never live down playing a Russian, but regardless, I’m happy to see him hop into the show. Given his action background and his decent acting chops, I’m curious to see who he’ll play and what he’ll bring to the table.

Of course, my first question, above all else, is, “who will he be playing?” I can’t say I’m terribly familiar with the Green Arrow’s rogues gallery — before the show, he wasn’t exactly at the top of my to-read list. Will Lundgren be playing a familiar foe to fans of the comic, or will he be a whole new creation? My final question is whether or not his character will exist only in flashback form. Characters from Oliver’s past tend to pop up in the present, so it’ll be interesting to see if the character will actually be a formidable foe, or just some one-off obstacle.

What do you think of Lundgren joining in the ARROW fray? Let us know in the comments down below!
