For those unaware, Egg is the same Egg that old Maester Aemon Targaryen was talking about to Sam Tarly in Game of Thrones. Therefore, I don’t think it’s a spoiler to say that Egg (Aegon) becomes King ahead of Aemon, his older brother. As for Dunc, well you’ve definitely seen some of his descendants within Game of Thrones also. However, I don’t want to give too much away depending on how the show plays this out.
However, all that for Egg is in the future. This series will focus on his youth when he squired for Ser Duncan the Tall. Or at least we assume so since ASOIAF creator GRRM still hasn’t finished his Hedge Knight books for Dunc and Egg. That sounds all too familiar, so will he ever finish those? Much as fans want to see those stories continue, I think 90% of the fan base wants Winds of Winter more.

As you can see by the related link above, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is due to start shooting soon. Hence why we likely have this casting announcement. As for the timeline of this series compared to parent series Game of Thrones or prequel House of the Dragon, it’s in between. Closer to Thrones than House, the series is roughly two plus generations prior to Thrones and three to four behind House of the Dragon. It’s hard to be too accurate as the show version of Thrones skipped a generation between Egg and the Mad King. This was a time when the Targaryen’s had no dragons left, but before the Mad King caused the division of the Seven Kingdoms.
What do you think of the Dunc and Egg casting as confirmed by HBO for their A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms prequel? Thoughts below as per usual.
