So some honesty here, I’ve never seen Dune, nor have I read the novels it is based on. I know, I know. I think we all have a handful of must-see films and television shows that, well, we simply haven’t gotten around to for one reason or the other. Anyway, I’m on duty so here we go.
Denis Villeneuve is directing and co-writing a reboot of the classic science-fiction film, and thanks to Vanity Fair you can check out a first look at the upcoming film.
I’ve embedded a couple of tweets to give you folks a sneak-peek at the first look, but the actual images can be found here.
#DUNE FIRST LOOK: Sharon Duncan-Brewster portrays ecologist Dr. Liet Kynes, a role previously depicted by a white man:
“[She] keeps peace amongst many people. Women are very good at that, so why can’t Kynes be a woman? Why shouldn’t Kynes be a woman?” @MissEssDeeBee says. pic.twitter.com/KFhXDJCE4d

“It was really surreal,” says @RealChalamet. “There are these Goliath landscapes, which you may imagine existing on planets in our universe, but not on Earth.”

Villeneuve, who has a number of quality installments under his belt including Arrival, Prisoners, and the well-received Blade Runner 2049 is also set to direct the pilot of a spin-off series Dune: The Sisterhood.
Considering how we’re all on one big timeout, this would probably be a good time for me to watch Dune right? I think I just may do that in the next day or two. I think Villeneuve is a fantastic director. I’ve really liked most of his films over the last several years. And considering the hype around the Dune remake, along with the talents of Villeneuve, I would like to see his take on this much-beloved story. But first, I need to watch the original.
The film is in post-production and is said to still be on track for a December 18, 2020 release.
