There was a time in the mid-80s when Eddie Murphy was, well, one funny motherf****r. His specials, Delirious and then Raw, captapulted the comedian to even bigger success. There have already been rumors of Murphy talking with Netflix about doing some comedy specials on the streaming service, as well as Murphy being set to star in the sequel to his poplar film from the early 90s, Coming to America.
Now, I don’t know but could his return have been inspired by seeing the reactions to Dave Chapelle’s latest Netflix special? Perhaps, as Eddie’s specials from the 80s are likely deemed offensive by many today, as was Chapelle’s most recent hour, Sticks and Stones. It’s possible seeing Dave jump right into the thick of politically correct culture and slay it like a knight does a dragon, motivated him to get out there and say what’s on his mind.
However, it’s also possible his supposed return was inspired by his latest film, for Netflix, Dolemite is My Name, which follows a comedian on a mission to make a movie about his pimp character, Dolemite

One thing I don’t hear Murphy get a lot of credit for is his impressions, if you go back and watch these specials, you’ll see what I mean. Murphy can do a spot-on Elvis Presley among other ones that may surprise you.
