Emily Blunt On The Pressure Of Taking On Mary Poppins

This Christmas, Mary Poppins Returns will bring to the big screen a sequel to one of Disney ‘s most beloved films of all time. Emily Blunt, who has taken on the iconic role of the world’s most famous nanny, recently spoke with dailymail.co.uk, and talked about the emotions she felt once she learned about playing the character:

“When Rob Marshall called me about this role he left a cryptic message. So I called him back and when he uttered the name Mary Poppins, I thought, ‘Wow!’ I was filled with a mixture of two emotions — I was obviously very excited, but I was also frozen with fear because, well, Mary herself is so iconic, and Julie Andrews is so iconic, too.”

Yes, Mary Poppins is a role that has some pretty big shoes to fill, but honestly, I don’t think they could have chosen a more perfect actress to bring the character back. Blunt has proven herself by showing a wide range of skills as an actress, jumping back and forth between genres, and the role of Mary Poppins just might end up being the one for which she is most remembered.

Mary Poppins Returns stars Emily Blunt as Mary Poppins, with Meryl Streep as Topsy. Others include Ben Whislaw, Colin Firth, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The legendary Dick Van Dyke who was in the original Mary Poppins film returns, also appearing is Angela Lansbury.
