Ewan McGregor says he’s not interested in a Marvel role, for now anyway. McGregor was at Fan Expo Boston this weekend and so were ComicBook.com. McGregor is already a huge part of one Disney franchise, but would he be interested in expanding that to include the MCU? Sadly if you’re a fan of McGregor it seems right now, no, he’s not. McGregor is certainly hopeful to make more Star Wars content, and with that mixed in with the indie projects hes working on, the actor appears very happy. For now that is, and McGregor refuses to rule out a change of heart down the line.
“I don’t know. I don’t know that I want to do that,” McGregor said. “Because I love doing all different kinds of work. It’s true. I love to direct. I’d like to be in the theater again. I definitely want to do this again, you know, I’m in this Star Wars world. I feel like I don’t need another… I’m not looking for that anyway. I feel like I shouldn’t say I wouldn’t do it because in two years time you’ll be like, ‘You said you were never going to do this!’ But I’m not looking for it particularly.”

I feel like McGregor was going to say ‘I feel like I don’t need another… money oriented gig’. Of course I can’t put words into his mouth, but I think that’s the sentiment I’m getting. A continued role in Star Wars would provide him that star vehicle and a good income stream which will allow him to work more on passion projects.
Can’t blame him at all really. Let’s face it, McGregor was always more of an indie actor and it was really only Star Wars where he’s gone in a different mega star direction. I’m old enough to have been a fan of McGregor before The Phantom Menace came around, Shallow Grave and Trainspotting were favorites of the teenage me.
However, how much life is there left in the Kenobi character? At most we could get 1-2 more projects with McGregor as Kenobi before we simply run out of room. Outside of that you’be looking at flashback cameos or nothing. Maybe at that point McGregor will start looking longingly across the hall to Feige’s desk? I guess we’ll have to wait and see. However don’t expect McGregor to show up in the MCU anytime soon.
