Exclusive Clip for The Bastards’ Fig Tree

Dark Star Pictures present the Spanish Civil War whimsical comedy The Bastards’ Fig Tree.

The Bastards’ Fig Tree is an exploration into the horrors of the Spanish Civil War by showing both the brutality of war and its ability to inspire hope and change into a broken society.

The film stars Karra Elejalde (Timecrimes, La madre muerta), Pepa Aniorte (Volver, Lo que escondian sus ojos), Carlos Areces (The Last Circus, Muchachada nui), Mikel Losada (U.C.O.) and Andres Herrera (Perfume: The Story of A Murderer_. It is written and directed by Ana Murugarren (Tres mentiras), based on the novel by Ramiro Pinilla.

Here’s a brief synopsis:

Near the end of the Spanish War, a “trigger happy” fascist soldier turns into a hermit and gets caught up in the care of a fig tree after the look in a ten year old child’s eyes, son of one of his victims, awakes in him the certainty that the kid will kill him as soon as he reaches sixteen years of age.

The Bastards’ Fig Tree has a Los Angeles theatrical run starting today with expansions to other markets in the following weeks. It will have a digital release on June 4.
