Jillian Nguyen completely relates to her character with April in the sci-fi romantic film Expired as an immigrant in a different country. April sought a new life in Hong Kong and eventually meets a man, who she starts to fall in love with. However, he starts dying under mysterious circumstances that test their bond of romance.
The film also stars Ryan Kwanten and Hugo Weaving in this near-futuristic setting that’ll remind audiences of Bladerunner.
Here is the official synopsis:
Ryan Kwanten (True Blood) and Hugo Weaving (The Matrix franchise) star in this futuristic thriller set in a neon-drenched metropolis. As Jack (Kwanten) works as a hitman, his lonely life is altered by two strangers—one a club singer, and the other scientist (Weaving). Jack and the singer fall in love, but as their relationship grows stronger, Jack grows physically weaker, unable to assassinate the targets he sees. And it doesn’t take long for the scientist to discover the shocking reasons behind Jack’s deadly afflictions.

Expired is the first lead role for Jillian Nguyen. She played the role of Molly Kane in The True History of the Kelly Gang which was directed by Justin Kurzel and starred Russell Crowe. Recently, she was seen in the Netflix series Clickbait and in the Kiwi comedy feature film Millie Lies. She’ll be appearing in the ABC series surfing drama Barons.
