Fans Can Now Take A Digitial Tour of Hogwarts

Today marks the day that Harry Potter and Ginny Weasley sent their child, who is named after both Professor Dumbledore and Severus Snape, off to Hogwarts. And with this special day comes a new way to look at the Harry Potter universe. According to Deadline, Harry Potter fans who are registered users of Pottermore can now take a digital tour of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Access to Hagrid’s hut, the Quidditch playing field and a look around the school are all included in the tour, with some of the locations being clickable and going into more detail. Pottermore Global Digital Director Henriette Stuart-Reckling elaborated on the website’s new feature.

“We’ve seen many interpretations of Hogwarts – from the artwork in the illustrated editions of the books to the eight feature films from Warner Bros. This new feature on our website marks the first time fans will have the opportunity to explore the famous wizarding school any time, any place and at their own pace. It’s a unique, mobile-first experience using bespoke visual assets allowing anyone to ‘visit’ Hogwarts on-the-go.”

Even though Stuart-Reckling said it is a mobile first experience, the feature is said to work on the majority of devices including, smartphones, tablets and personal computers. While writing this, I took a minute and went over and checked out the tour. It is a pretty neat little feature, for the castle and Hagrid’s hut, the tour seems to only cover the exterior, but perhaps they will expand the tour to the inside of the castle in the future. The Quidditch pitch area allows you to circle the field and fly right through the center scoring ring. There are a 100 areas called “hotspots”, which are marked by lights, simply click on one of the lights and more details about the location will pop up.  Potter nerds should get a kick out of this feature.

It is going on six years now since the last Harry Potter film was released, even so, the fan base shows no signs of slowing down. This new digital tour will allow fans who haven’t made it down to Universal Studios Orlando a chance to look around the wizarding world and experience Hogwarts like never before.
