J.K. Rowling is an interesting writer. Here is a woman who was clearly made for writing mysteries for adults, and somehow she managed to write one of the most engaging children’s books of all time. Now that her audience has grown it, it looks like she’s finally able to better indulge in her mystery writer sensibilities in the Fantastic Beasts series — more specifically, the upcoming film Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald.
“The script is labyrinthian,” star Eddie Redmayne told EW. “It’s like you’re going down this maze and Jo is weaving the stories together with such intricacy. Along the way these connections to Harry Potter and secrets are falling at your feet. And there is one…”
If you’re a fan of Rowling’s work outside of Harry Potter, this is exciting to hear, as she’s well known for creating a lot of twists an turns in her mysteries. But of course, she’s also known for surprising audiences, and this particular entry won’t be any exception.

“I got to the end and my jaw dropped,” Redmayne continued. “There was one thing I didn’t see coming.”
So what in the hell is the big secret? Sorry, you’ll have to wait until you see the movie, and even if we knew we wouldn’t dare spoil it. But it sounds like it’s going to be dark. In fact, the whole movie sounds dark. Dan Fogler, who plays the muggle Jacob Kowalski made an apt comparison.
“It reminds me a lot of The Empire Strikes Back. The first movie is so positive. It’s sweet and lovely. But this time everybody is really put under fire. People are gonna see this like a 100 times just to get everything. They’re going to be going nuts that they have to wait for the next one.”
Sure, it’s a clichéd comparison to make, but it certainly does intrigue, doesn’t it?
