According to The Wrap Mads Mikkelsen has officially joined the cast of Fantastic Beasts 3 replacing Johnny Depp in the role of Gellert Grindelwald in the Harry Potter spin-off film series. Depp resigned from the role at the request of Warner Bros after he lost a libel suit against the U.K. based outlet The Sun earlier this month. Shortly after Depp’s exit, rumors of Mikkelsen stepping into the role began to pop up around the movie news world.
Mikkelsen recently addressed the now-confirmed rumor while speaking with IGN.
“Oh, that is on the rumor basis as we speak. So I know as much as you do from the newspapers. So I’m waiting for that phone call.”

By joining in Fantastic Beasts 3, Mikkelsen now part of three large film franchises, playing Kaecilius in Doctor Strange, and Galen Erso in Rogue One: A Star Wars Story. The character credited for fixing what may have been cinema’s most famous plothole. With that said, it goes without saying that Mikkelsen should be excellent for the role of Grindelwald. A fine choice indeed
The recasting pushed the film’s release back more than half a year from November of 2021 to July of 2022. Asa private company, Warner Bros has the right to do what they feel necessary in order to protect their brand. However, it would be nice if people were convicted of charges before decisions such as this are made. And that’s about as far as I want to get into the situation
Are you excited that Mads Mikkelsen has officially come aboard Fantastic Beasts 3?
