Not the most dramatic news, but important nonetheless as Fantastic Four and Deadpool 3 get new writers. Both upcoming Marvel movies are in development but neither have yet gone into production. As you likely know, writers change around on these movies all the time. So bringing in some new ideas this late in the game fits within what we’d call normal parameters. Let’s start with:
Fantastic Four
THR reports that Josh Friedman is the latest scribe to take a stab at the script for Fantastic Four. The movie is being helmed by WandaVision director Matt Shakman and is due for release on Feb. 14, 2025.
Marvel’s first family is getting a rewrite. Josh Friedman, who worked on Avatar: The Way of Water and developed Snowpiercer as a TNT television series, has been tapped to write the script for Marvel Studios’ Fantastic Four.
How much of a rewrite this will be is anyone’s guess for now. However I for one am not convinced we’ll see Fantastic Four as early as February of 2025. There’s still more delays to be announced for sure. Therefore, if the movie does get delayed, this could become a more extensive rewrite potentially.
Deadpool 3
On Deadpool we have ComicBook reporting that Zeb Wells has come on board as a writer. For now, as you can see the outlet has no news on whether Wells is taking over, just jumping into lend a hand, or something else?
When the film was first announced, it was said Bob’s Burgers alumni Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin were writing a draft for the film. Before too long, longtime Deadpool scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick were then added to the movie, giving the Molyneux script a do-over. Now, it looks like Wells has joined the writing team, though it’s unclear if the Amazing Spider-Man writer is doing another draft and working alongside Reese and Wernick. In addition to writing the divisive Spidey comic series, Wells also found himself in the writer’s room for She-Hulk: Attorney at Law.

For now I have no comments as such. These movies scripts will be judged when we see the final product like all other movies are. After all, we don’t get to see them before hand.
Currently Deadpool 3 is scheduled for November 8, 2024. However, again, I’d be surprised if that date does not slip out further.
So, both Fantastic Four and Deadpool 3 get new writers. Does anyone have any strong opinions on any of the new writers reported for these movies? If so, leave any thoughts below.
