David Lowery Will Direct Star Wars: Skeleton Crew | Barside Buzz

We have a release window as Star Wars: Skeleton Crew premiere's this Christmas and also features both matte paintings and stop-motion.

The latest Barside Buzz is that David Lowery will direct at least one episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew for Lucasfilm. The news comes from One Take News and friend of the site BSL. BSL has some good sources within Lucasfilm and recently he was first to reveal that the Daniels would be directing at least one episode of Skeleton Crew. That information was backed up mere hours later by the big trades. In other words, I’m happy this is 100% legit, however you decide for yourself.

Here is what the site reported.

David Lowery, famous for his work on Pete’s DragonThe Old Man & The Gun and The Green Knight, will direct at least one episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew, multiple sources tell One Take News.

As said this comes after we recently learned that Everything, Everywhere‘s Oscar winning directors the Daniels were also on directing duties. It is assumed by many fans that series creator Jon Watt’s may also direct one or more episodes. However as yet there has been no confirmation Watts will step into the chair, or stay as showrunner only?

I’m sure you already know that Star Wars: Skeleton Crew takes place in the MandoVerse. In other words the timeline of The Mandalorian that also has Ahsoka, and The Book of Boba Fett. MandoVerse exec producers Jon Favreau and Dave Filoni are also producers on Skeleton Crew. The idea for the show came from chats between creator Watts and producer Favreau when the former was directing the latter in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

The official synopsis for now is only this one sentence below.

Skeleton Crew tells the story of four kids who find themselves lost in in the vastness of the galaxy trying to find their way home.

However, we also know that Jude Law stars as the adult looking after the kids on this adventure. It remains to be seen how connected these events will be to the rest of the MandoVerse? In other words, there’s no point speculating too much, yet.

So, the Barside Buzz is that David Lowery will direct at least one episode of Star Wars: Skeleton Crew. Maybe by the time I publish this, a trade will have confirmed the report again? In the meantime, let us know what you think of Lowery, or leave anything Skeleton Crew related below.
