Fantastic Four’s Josh Trank’s New Film Capone Gets A First Trailer

Over four years ago, Josh Trank was seemingly on the rise. He had directed the fan-favorite film Chronicle. In an era where found footage films were all played out, it somehow managed to feel unique and exciting. The resulting movie was something that was a mix of Cloverfield and Akira. It was clear that Trank was a bold new visionary to be watched. 20th Century Fox picked him up and he got to work on Fantastic Four, a new take on Marvel’s first family. In the midst of that film, Lucasfilm picked him up to direct what would have been a Boba Fett spinoff.

Of course, what happened next was…interesting. There was drama surrounding the production of Fantastic Four, and on the heels of that, Lucasfilm dropped him from the project. 20th Century Fox went on to completely transform Fantastic Four into their own project, and the film ultimately bombed. Trank went on to talk about how much better the film would have been without their tampering, and the rest was history.

Trank has since been laying low, working hard on his next movie Capone, which stars Tom Hardy in the titular role. Now, we finally have our first look at the biopic. Check it out down below!

The movie looks to tell an interesting story. Rather than focus on Capone in his heyday, it follows him at 47 years old, after 10 years in prison. Around this time, he was apparently suffering from dementia and is “haunted by his violent past,” as the synopsis states.

I have to say, though, as solid as it looks, it doesn’t necessarily feel super unique. Based on the limited footage, it looks like a pretty standard biopic-type movie. Sure, the story feels a bit different, but the way it’s done feels pretty generic. Of course, we’ll see how it plays out in the actual movie when it hits VOD on May 12, 2020.
