Film Threat Award This! Winners and Red Carpet Interviews

Film Threat Award This! continues to recognize Hollywood at where it is needed the most—with the independent films.

In its second year, Film Threat Award This! recognizes the low budget films with a true indie spirit. Over the weekend, Film Independent’s Spirit Awards also honored independent films, but with more modest budgets and celebrity fanfare.

This year’s winners included indie films in several categories such as Devil’s Revenge, Satanic Panic, Spell, Daddy Issues, A Violent Man, and Weedjies! Halloweed Night. For Award This! Indie Movie of the Year went to sci-fi comedy The Wrong Todd.

Individual directing honors went a couple of ties with Brendan Walter for Spell, William Wayne for Lost Angelas, Amara Cash for Daddy Issues, and Chelsea Stardust for Satanic Panic. The awards ceremony honors Best Director and Best Directress as separate categories.

In its first year, Award This! recognized documentary films as a part of the ceremony. In multiple categories, the documentaries recognized, including The Russian Five, Don’t Be Nice, Mr. Toilet, and Bathtubs Over Broadway.

The highest-profile honor was with Award This! Oscar Snub for the film that should deserve recognition by the Academy Awards. The honor went to Lulu Wang, director of The Farewell.

Unlike other award ceremonies, Film Threat is a movie review site, podcast, and YouTube channel that champions the true independent filmmakers and festivals. Chris Gore founded Film Threat in the 1990s, in which it started as a distributed magazine to its format today.

The full ceremony broadcasted on YouTube from the event in Burbank, Calif.

LRM Online conducted red carpet interviews with multiple winners and nominees from last week’s event.
