This writer, as were many others, was surprised to hear of the casting choice for Diana Prince’s next villain in the sequel to 2017’s Wonder Woman. It definitely takes a different step and (possibly) tone after a film featuring the villainous performances of Danny Huston and David Thewlis. However, to simply consider Kristen Wiig as a comedic actress and nothing more discredits the actress’ range when it comes to taking on more serious roles. With roles in Downsizing, Mother!, The Martian, and The Skeleton Twins, Wiig has proven she has the talent to do more than just the hilarity she has mastered in her past work and has the potential to be the antagonist to Gal Gadot’s Amazonian Goddess.
Now, thanks to the film’s director, the world has been given a first look at Wiig in the film as Barbara Minera, aka Cheetah. Director Patty Jenkins shared the image on her Twitter earlier today:

In the stories of DC comics, Barbara Minerva is a British archaeologist who attempts to achieve immortality as caretaker of the god Urzkartaga through an ancient ritual. However, she ends up cursed by the ritual and hungering for flesh while in Cheetah form. Noticeable by the picture posted today, Jenkins and Warner Bros. plan to keep the Cheetah look under wraps for the time being.

The sequel to the 2017 blockbuster reunites director Jenkins with her star Gadot for an adventure that will take place nearly 70 years after the events of the first film, but still a prequel to all current DCEU films. Along with Wiig, the cast includes Pedro Pascal (Game Of Thrones), the original television Wonder Woman Lynda Carter and the returning Chris Pine as Steve Trevor.
Wonder Woman 1984 is currently slated to be released November 1st, 2019.
