First Look At Black Lightning’s Thunder

With CW’s Black Lightning debut on January 16th, the network has released our first look at actress Nafessa Williams as Thunder aka Anissa Pierce. Like her father’s costume, Thunder will also have goggles to conceal her identity and it has a similar design to some of her comic book versions. One cool design is the tremor pattern off a Richter scale, obviously making a reference to her ability to create shockwaves.

Thunder aka Anissa Pierce is the daughter of Jefferson Pierce, aka Black Lightning, who did not want her to become a vigilante. But after graduating school she decided to put on the costume and then soon joined the Outsiders. She has the ability to increase her body density, which allows her to create devastating blows with her hands and feet, thus also creating shockwaves.

Thunder was created by Judd Winick and Tom Raney and first appeared in DC Comic’s Outsiders #1 in August of 2003. This was 26 years after the first appearance of her father Jefferson Pierce aka Black Lightning in 1977 in DC Comic’s Black Lightning #1 by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden. In the CW series Jefferson is a high school principle who is dealing with his crime fighting past. But with a new threat in the neighborhood, gives him no choice but to once again join the fight.
