First Look At Regina King’s One Night In Miami From Amazon Prime

One Night In Miami

It’s always exciting when on television or film characters come together like The Avengers or The Justice League. But these are all fictional characters, what about when real-life heroes come together? This is the story of Amazon Prime Video’s One Night In Miami... On February 25th, 1964 after Cassius Clay (later Muhammad Ali) beat Sonny Liston for the boxing heavyweight title. He celebrated the occasion with Civil Rights leader Malcolm X, football star Jim Brown, and soul singer Sam Cooke. You can check out the trailer below!

One Night In Miami… is Regina King’s directorial debut. As you can see in the trailer, the four soon to be legends used their time together to talk about their struggles as public figures. As well as how to uplift Black people with their current platform. The story is based on a play by Kemp Powers that goes by the same name. Powers wrote the screenplay for this film. Cassius Clay is played by Eli Goree. Malcolm X is played by Kingsley Ben-Adir. Sam Cooke is played by Leslie Odom Jr. and Jim Brown in played by Aldis Hodge.

Here is the synopsis for One Night In Miami provided by Amazon Prime Video

On one incredible night in 1964, four icons of sports, music, and activism gathered to celebrate one of the biggest upsets in boxing history. When underdog Cassius Clay, soon to be called Muhammad Ali, (Eli Goree), defeats heavyweight champion Sonny Liston at the Miami Convention Hall, Clay memorialized the event with three of his friends: Malcolm X (Kingsley Ben-Adir), Sam Cooke (Leslie Odom Jr.) and Jim Brown (Aldis Hodge).

Based on the award-winning play of the same name, and directed by Regina King, One Night In Miami… is a fictional account inspired by the historic night these four formidable figures spent together. It looks at the struggles these men faced and the vital role they each played in the civil rights movement and cultural upheaval of the 1960s. More than 40 years later, their conversations on racial injustice, religion, and personal responsibility still resonate.

This looks like a fantastic film. I am very excited to see King’s directorial debut. She has played so many great roles in the past and now in charge of telling the story of the night these legends came together. I can’t even imagine the kinds of conversations that these four men would have. To be a fly on the wall right?
