Yesterdays Xbox Developer event gave us the first trailer for the Indiana Jones and the Great Circle Xbox game, and so far it looks promising. The game is being developed by Machine Games, and whilst we’ve known it existed for a while, this is the first real gameplay footage ever seen.

As per the developers themselves, The Great Circle is a mix of first person and third person gameplay. The idea being that the point of view changes depending on the situation. Exploring, fighting and puzzle solving seems to be all be in first person. However, platforming and cut scenes are in third person.
As for the voice cast, it is as yet unannounced, but that really sounds like Troy Baker doing his best Harrison Ford. I can’t guarantee that, but I’d be willing to place a wager on Baker playing Indy.
Visually, the game looks good. The environments and models all look very polished. My only real grip is that the action fighting scenes looked a bit clunky. Using the whip and punching people seemed okay, but when Indy picked up a gun it didn’t feel like a first person shooter would. There’s just a clunkiness to the action scenes for me so far. Though, these could be ironed out prior to release?

Game director Jerk Gustafsson said on a post over at the Lucasfilm website that the idea was to make the player feel like Indy, not a superhero.
“We based our philosophy of the gameplay around the character of Indiana Jones,” Gustafsson says. “He is not a superhero, he is a very agile and tough archaeologist. When you overcome the numerous obstacles in your way, it takes a lot of effort and hard work, like a real human being.”
As for details on release window etc? All we know is that Indiana Jones and the Great Circle is set for release sometime in 2024. As an Xbox first party title, the game will be available day one on Game Pass to subscribers. It will not be ported over to PS5 as far as we know.
