Starring with Erivo is the multitalented Janelle Monáe (Hidden Figures, Moonlight), Leslie Odom, Jr. (Murder On The Orient Express, Red Tails), Vondie Curtis-Hall (Waist Deep, Broken Arrow), and Clarke Peters (John Wick, Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri).

This Focus Features project is accustomed to producing under-the-radar, quality films that generate a lot of buzz. This film in particular comes at a time when racial inequality and discrimination are currently a part of society’s issues. From politics to sports to entertainment, there is legitimate push for inclusive talent and unheard (or in this case, yet-to-be-dramatized) tales from this nation’s past. Additionally, with talk of Tubman replacing Andrew Jackson as the face of the twenty-dollar bill, this film could help to shine a light on an incredible heroine’s true story and her deserved recognition.
Harriet opens in theaters November 1st.
