Former Oscars Host Seth MacFarlane On Why No One Wants To Host

With Kevin Hart being out as host of the 2019 Academy Awards, due to past tweets that were deemed offensive, the Oscars are currently without a host. What has been a huge honor in the past has now become a job that comes with heavy social media scrutiny.

Multi-talented performer Seth MacFarlane, who himself hosted the event back in 2013 says it’s a tough job, with all the eyes of the entertainment industry on the ceremony. MacFarlane recently spoke with Entertainment Weekly and discussed the event and what it means to host it.

“Look, it’s a gig that has all eyes on it. And when you’re doing something that’s that much in the spotlight, with that much focus on it, that much intensity, you’re going to have a lot of opinions from a lot of people. I’m trying to think of the last time that I read a review of the Oscars the next day where everyone is raving about it—it’s been a long time.”

“It’s fun! It’s a fun gig. I’ll tell you that much.”

At this point, it seems best for the Academy to thoroughly vet the social media accounts of any potential hosts. It would save them a lot of trouble in the age of the court of social media.
