FOX’s Gotham, the Batman prequel series is less than a month away from debuting it’s final season. The series kicked off back in fall of 2014 and it promised us that by the end, we would have seen David Mazouz’s Bruce Wayne transformation into the Batman. But as the season’s went on for me at least it seemed like his story took a back seat to Ben McKenzie’s James Gordon and villains like Robin Lord Tayor’s Oswald Cobblepot and Cory Michael’s Smith’s Edward Nygma. So with a shorter fifth and final season, would there be time for Batman?

The new trailer for the fifth season teases, yes. The trailer shows us some new footage showing just how much chaos has been left in Gotham after the city was cut off from the rest of the world and some of the villains behind it. But right at the end there is a shadow behind Bruce, of a certain Dark Knight. You can check out the trailer above!

As we already know this season of Gotham will be a combination of two great Batman story arcs in comics. First there is No Man’s Land, where Gotham is sealed off from the rest of the country after an earthquake, which of course led to criminals taking over. The other is Batman: Zero Year, where Gotham has been taken hostage by The Riddler. It is setting up to be a very action packed season.

I don’t mind at all the amount of villains coming out of the shadows to take advantage of the situation, but I don’t believe that it is necessary to force in the arrival of Batman, especially with how young Bruce is in this series. I would think that a more fitting ending would be one where he realizes how much more he has to learn and takes off for training, leaving Gotham in the hands of a triumphant (hopefully) Commissioner Gordon. Either way, I can’t wait to see what surprises they have in store for the final season.
