This is the latest news in what has been a string of potential stars lined up to take part in the DC/Warner Bros. stand-alone film. Also believed to be an inspiration for the story is the comic trade The Killing Joke, written by Alan Moore. Moore’s story depicts the Joker as an unarmed failed comedian who has “one bad day.” His pregnant wife dies in a freak accident and a botched bank robbery leave him permanently disfigured, causing the character to snap and become one of the most vicious and recognizable villains in comic book history.
