After being killed in Captain America: Civil War by Scarlet Witch, the character of Crossbones, played by actor Frank Grillo seemed to have had his last brawl in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. A couple of days ago some comments by Grillo sparked talk that Crossbones may not be gone after all. Now he seems to be backpedaling on any implications he may have made. In speaking with Metro.us, actor Frank Grillo, who plays Crossbones, left the door open ever so slightly for the possible return of his Marvel character, but made clear he hasn’t heard anything on a return from the studio:

“Look, Marvel’s awesome. I have a long-term contract with them and it’s a superhero movie, you never know. I don’t have any idea. I said that once before about two weeks ago and people jumped on that and thought I said Crossbones is back. No. That’s ridiculous. But we’ll see what happens. I’m not waiting for the phone to ring.”

It sounds as if Grillo is willing to reprise his role as Crossbones, but doesn’t seem optimistic on the return of his character actually happening. It is interesting that he has a longterm contract, perhaps Marvel does have future plans for Crossbones, or it’s possible they had bigger plans for the character and decided to go a different route.

Grillo appeared as the character in both Captain America: The Winter Soldier and Captain America: Civil War.
