In a not-so-surprising turn of events, Frozen II, Disney’s long-awaited sequel to the 2013 juggernaut has made a great deal of money. In fact, it’s just passed the $1.325 billion mark at the worldwide box office, which easily pushes it past the original’s $1.281 billion haul, which is no small feat for any movie, let alone an animated one. This number is enough to catapult the movie into the number one highest-grossing animated film of all-time.

Some may point to The Lion King as the true king of the animated box office, and I’d agree, but since Disney is coining that as one of their “live-action” remakes, I guess it doesn’t count. That being said, there is a single shot in the film that is technically live-action, so perhaps that’s enough to tip the scales.

Either way, none of this takes away from Frozen II’s accomplishment, and it’s kind of crazy to that its box office haul is enough to earn it the third highest-grossing film of 2019 behind Avengers: Endgame and The Lion King, which earned $2.79 billion and $1.65 billion, respectively. That being said, it’s still a whole lot of money and secures Disney’s dominance in the world of animation.
