This past year finally saw Dragon Quest XI hit Nintendo Switch in what is easily the most definitive version of the game, but that wasn’t the only big Dragon Quest thing to hit the market that year. Those with their eyes across the ocean to the Land of the Rising Sun likely knew that it also saw the release of Dragon Quest: Your Story, a CG-animated film boasting the spirit of high adventure the franchise is known for.

The film has yet to get a physical release, and its overseas release has also been a bit of a question mark. Now, it sounds like that question mark has been answered, thanks to some eagle-eyed fans, who noticed the movie has a page on Netflix.

The post comes with a brief synopsis that reads:

“Luca follows in his father’s footsteps to rescue his mother from evil Ladja. Finding the heavenly hero who wields the Zenithian sword is his only hope.”

Sadly, there is no release date set for this thing, but it wouldn’t be crazy to think that Netflix has the rights to it outside of Japan. As a casual fan of the franchise, I’m interested to see how its style, tone, and monsters translate to a feature film. Can a franchise so big in nature and happy-go-lucky hold up without players being in the driver’s seat?
