Given the trajectory of their films back in 2013, it was logical to think that Disney’s Frozen would be a solid hit. However, despite its marketing (which tended to avoid the plot altogether and play up Olaf and Sven), it managed to become a worldwide sensation, taking in $1.28Bn worldwide. Yup, that’s billion with a B. It’s done so well that Black Panther literally only just passed the film at the worldwide box office, and that film is HUGE!

A sequel seemed inevitable, and next year (roughly six years after the first one) we’ll be getting just that. But how far along are they in the process? Speaking with Ellen DeGeneres, star Kristen Bell gave an update:

“I have recorded the movie. There will be edits before it’s finished but I know the songs, I know the story, it’s very good — I can’t say much more than that or I’ll get in trouble!”

Since the film is still around a year-and-a-half away from release, there is still quite a bit of work to do. We know animated these huge films take a LOT of time and manpower. But the good news here is that the story and base recording is all ironed out — mostly, at least. Disney rarely moves along to this stage unless they’re confident in the story, so that’s a good sign.

Only time will tell whether or not it’ll be a worthy follow-up. In the past, the studio has made plenty of fans upset over their direct-to-DVD sequels, but with this year’s Wreck-It Ralph, and next year’s Frozen 2, they are committing heavily to making big sequels. Let’s hope they end up being good!
