Galaxy’s Edge: Unique Locations Were Considered For Each Park’s Version Of The Star Wars Attraction

Galaxy's Edge

It’s no secret that I have a few issues with Disney’s overall handling of the Star Wars francise. However, Galaxy’s Edge at the company’s theme parks I must say well done, seriously bravo Mouse, bravo. The attraction’s setting is the planet of Batuu. Which is located in the outer rim of a galaxy far, far away.

Besides a handful of decorative differences the Galaxy’s Edge at both Disneyland and Disneyworld are the samee Batuu setting. However, that wasn’t always the plan as there discussions about having a different location in each park. WDW News Today came across Disney executives Robin Reardon abd Scott Trowbridge and speaking on a webcast. You can check out what they had to say below.

Robin Reardon:

“We did have a moment where we considered building a different project in each location, but it was a very short moment. [We] pretty quickly realized that the right thing to do was for us to build sister versions of the same place on each coast. We knew that it was going to be more inefficient to design two different things. [We] built two of everything at the same time.”

That makes sense and it likely saved Disney some money. It also provides the same experience for parkgoers on both coasts. and gives something orginal to both hardcore fans those with a casual interest in the franchise.

Trowbridge:

“Early on, you can imagine the conversations we had about Tatooine, Hoth or Dagobah — all these classic places that we have seen in Star Wars storytelling in the past. But for us, from the very beginning, we said, ‘No we don’t want to do that.’ We wanted to build a place that felt like it was the perfect stepping off point for your adventure. A place rife with opportunity, rife with possibility.”

The Batuu setting is great, it really is. However, the two rides within Galaxy’s Edge ar something truly special. Smuggler’s Run and Rise of the Resistance are amazing. Both on a Star Wars level, and as theme park rides go in general. And I would say it’s a safe bet that the Star Wars area of the Disney Parks will be expanding at some point. So it’s possible we may get some familiar locations to explore. Imagine having Westworld technology and using hosts as film characters in a place like Galaxy’s Edge or The Wizarding World of Harry Potter.
