His Dark Materials Season 2 sees its cast expand.

While His Dark Materials didn’t exactly set the world on fire in terms of ratings, it was a quality series I adored. Granted, I’ve always been a fan of the trilogy of books from Philip Pullman. As such, I was thrilled to see his material treated so seriously. So I was more than a little thrilled when it was confirmed that they’d be having a second season. Unlike its first season, the second season would delve into a story that has never yet been realized on the screen, as it digs into The Subtle Knife’s material.

The majority of His Dark Materials Season 2 was already filmed prior to the pandemic. However, there are apparently some key things to be shot. One such actor who will be featured in some of these key scenes is none other than Bella Ramsey. You may not recognize the name, but Game of Thrones fans will recognize her as Lyanna Mormont.

According to Redanian Intelligence, the role she’ll be playing is that of Angelica. In The Subtle Knife, Angelica is a girl who Lyra and Will meet while in the city of Cittàgazze. The story sees the entire city overrun with deadly Spectres, and Angelica and her siblings are the first people the pair sees. Needless to say, conflicting goals don’t necessarily make for a happy and heartfelt relationship between Will and Lyra and the rest of the group.

Also of note is that angels Baruch and Balthamos have also been cast. Playing them are actors Oliver Monaghan and I-Kay Agu, respectively. I honestly don’t know much about these actors, but the mere fact that they’ve cast damn angels in this show really drives home how faithful they are being to the source material. Make no mistake, this novel series is WEIRD and I’m happy to see they aren’t shortchanging the series.
