Game of Thrones Is Coming To 4K – And It Pi**es Me Off As A Consumer

Game of Thrones is coming to 4K. Should be great news for fans, but for me as a consumer I am suitably pi**ed off. Let’s go back just over a year ago. Game of Thrones final season had ended and fans were eager to see what box sets would be out for the holidays. As a fan of Game of Thrones, I wanted to get the full boxset, despite the drop in quality towards the end. Each year after a season, HBO had released a Blu-ray box set of that season. I however, wanted all eight season of Thrones and therefore waited until it was finished.

I was hoping and looking for a 4K box set at the time, as I have a 4K set up. Alas, HBO revealed that the show would not be released fully in 4K. In fact, only Season 1 and Season 8 of the show were available in 4K to buy separately. So I instead chose the standard Blu-ray box set, and my wife paid over £100 (U.K.) for it for my Xmas gift.

Now, less than a year from that Blu-ray, HBO has decided to cash in on a 4K box set. I’m pi**ed off about this, because it feels pre-planned. Release it only on Blu-ray, the fans will buy it and then we can cash in next year with a 4K set. Well, sorry HBO, but there is no way I will buy this twice. Maybe if the final two seasons had aced it, I’d feel differently?

For those who are interested, here is all the details as E-mailed to me by HBO. Essentially, this set will have all the same features that the Blu-ray set did, but with the enhanced picture quality. Oh, and the box art and packaging is also far superior, FML! Check it out.
