Star Wars Next Animated Show Is A Spinoff From The Clone Wars

One of the worst kept Star Wars secrets has finally come out.  It has been swirling around for some time that their would either be another season of The Clone Wars or some sort of spinoff show after the huge success of the last season finished up.  Today Disney+ ordered its next animated series from Lucasfilm, “Star Wars: The Bad Batch.” The Disney+ original series will premiere on the streaming service in 2021.

The first four episodes of last season of The Clone Wars focused on a rescue mission with Captain Rex and the Bad Batch troopers to save Clone Trooper Echo. The new series will follow the Bad Batch as they find their way in a rapidly changing galaxy in the immediate aftermath of the Clone War. Members of Bad Batch each possess a singular exceptional skill which makes them extraordinarily effective soldiers and a formidable crew. In the post-Clone War era, they will take on daring mercenary missions as they struggle to stay afloat and find new purpose.

“Giving new and existing fans the final chapter of ‘Star Wars: The Clone Wars’ has been our honor at Disney+, and we are overjoyed by the global response to this landmark series,” said Agnes Chu, senior vice president, Content, Disney+.  “While the Clone Wars may have come to its conclusion, our partnership with the groundbreaking storytellers and artists at Lucasfilm Animation is only beginning.  We are thrilled to bring Dave Filoni’s vision to life through the next adventures of the Bad Batch.”

For a lot of Clone Wars fans this news will be exciting and I am personally excited about this new series.  While the last story arc of season seven was amazing, the first story arc involving The Bad Batch showed that there was still more stories to tell about our favorite clones.  We will also get to see what happens to Clone Trooper Echo after the fallout from Order 66.  Will they explore how much Echo knew about the execution of the Jedi?  What do you all think about this amazing news?
