Game Of Thrones Sequel Starring Kit Harrington In Development At HBO!

A Game of Thrones sequel starring Kit Harrington as Jon Snow is in development at HBO. The news comes from an exclusive THR report. Here is what they had to say in terms of details although story wise, there’s nothing here and I’ll get to that below.

The network has entered into early development on its first sequel to its blockbuster fantasy drama: A live-action spin-off series centered on the fan-favorite character Jon Snow, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.

Kit Harington is attached to reprise the role should a series move forward. The actor was twice nominated for an Emmy for his portrayal of an action-hero who struggles to uphold his family’s noble values in a brutal world.

HBO’s other live-action prequels in various stages of development are 10,000 Ships (a.k.a. Nymeria) with showrunner Amanda Segel, 9 Voyages (a.k.a. The Sea Snake) with showrunner Bruno Heller, and Dunk and Egg with showrunner Steve Conrad.

Wow. The prequel shows (mentioned above) all made a lot of sense for me. However, I never imagined in a million years that HBO would go back to the well, (at least, not this quickly) into a Game of Thrones sequel. I’m really not sure this is a great idea. Given that author George R. R. Martin is struggling to ever even finish the books he began, what is the story being told here? It’s starring Kit Harrington and since he was one of the two main characters in Game of Thrones, and he killed the other, you can have to look at this as a sequel.

This feels like a panic move. ‘We need Thrones back to HBO and we’re not sure House of the Dragon will do the job, lets hit that break that emergency glass and phone Kit Harrington’. Of course, if this is a sequel involving Jon Snow, then there is huge potential for all his various family to show up as well, on his Stark side anyway, the other side are all dead.

First there’s his cousin Bran, currently the King of the Six Kingdoms. Then we have Sansa, currently Queen of the North and closest to where Jon is now. There’s also Arya who was last seen sailing into the West, potentially to never be seen again. Then we have Tyrion still drinking, Grey Worm who wants to kill Jon still, and Tormund. Tormund is the one character most likely to return, given he rode North with Jon in the finale of Game of Thrones.

Jon is also, I assume still unable to go back to Westeros given he left his posted punishment and went into the true North with his Wildling buddies. Though, I dare say Sansa, who can now make her own rules, wouldn’t give a damn if Jon nipped down to Winterfell for a visit.

WHY?

Now Star Wars has been doing this for years, and with varied results. Creating new stories for these character can absolutely work. However it is very difficult to pull off. You essentially need to create a whole new story to pull Jon into and have it remain respectful to the lore of the show/books.

However the reason to do anything like this has to start with a good story. Maybe HBO were pitched a sequel idea they could not say no to, and GRRM approved? Maybe it was GRRM’s idea to begin with, and he knows he’ll never write this sequel? However, my worry, is that this was dreamed up by some executives in an office who just want to chase the success of Thrones. I hope they factor in how badly received that final rush job of a season was? I guess we shall see?

Equally, Harrington is now in the MCU and expected to have an increased role as Dane Whitman going forward. That means whatever is being developed for Jon Show, (see what I did there? Ahem) will have to factor in that they won’t get Harrington all the time like they did with Thrones.

I hope when they called him to propose this initially, he replied with, “but I dun even wan it”?

Well, there’s a Game of Thrones sequel starring Kit Harrington as Jon Snow is in development at HBO. I expected to type these words one day, I won’t lie, but not in 2022. What do you think? As always, leave your thoughts below or over on Discord.
