This past weekend was a great weekend for pop culture. You couldn’t throw a stone into social media without hitting either Avengers: Endgame and Game of Thrones. Avengers: Endgame went on to break all sorts of box office records, taking in a whopping $357 million in North America alone…but it wasn’t the only one to pull some solid numbers that weekend.
According to a new report from THR, Game of Thrones did pretty well for itself too. The most recent episode, “The Long Night,” managed to pull in 17.8 million viewers for its first airing alone, including replays and streaming. This is a series record, which was previously set by the season premiere on April 14, which took in 17.4 million first-night viewers.

In terms of its on-air audience, it also managed to take the cake for the second largest initial airing audience, with first place going to the Season 7 finale, which took in 12.07 million people. On the whole, it looks like this final Game of Thrones season is really justifying the big dollars HBO put into them.
As of right now, 38 million people have viewed the Season 8 premiere. Not bad for a show that started off with a modest standard TV budget per episode, eh? Were you one of the millions who have been tuning in for this season? Let us know down below!
