George Gallo on Putting a Different Spin on Action with Vanquish [Exclusive Interview]

Vanquish directed by George Gallo

George Gallo has well known writing credits with buddy action movies with Midnight Run and Bad Boys. For Vanquish, he saw an opportunity to put a different spin on the action movies that we’re used to for years.

Vanquish may appear to be another movie about a female lead trying to save her daughter. For Gallo in the director’s chair, it was his chance in action and storytelling to portray a different type of female protagonist, who could fend herself against any adversary.

The film stars Morgan Freeman (Se7en) and Ruby Rose (Orange Is The New Black) in this high-octane action film. Gallo directed the movie that was co-written by Gallo and Samuel Bartlett (The Grand Design).

Here’s the synopsis:

Vanquish is a movie that shows what desperation can drive a person to do. A mother, Victoria (Rose), is trying to put her dark past as a Russian drug courier behind her, but retired cop Damon (Freeman) forces Victoria to do his bidding by holding her daughter hostage. Now, Victoria must use guns, guts, and a motorcycle to take out a series of violent gangsters—or she may never see her child again.
