Hope you’ve already got your fill of seeing Jordan Peele on the small or big screen, because it sounds like he’s pretty much done. Prior to last year, the actor-director was likely best known from his comedy-sketch show Key and Peele, and from there, he and co-star Keegan-Michael Key went on to star in the action-comedy film, Keanu.

Well, get used to only seeing his name on the big screen, as when speaking with CBS Sunday Morning (via EW), he declared his retirement when asked if he was done acting.

“That’s the idea. Daniel Day-Lewis and I are both out. Acting is just nowhere near as fun for me as directing.”

Of course, his reference to legendary actor Daniel Day-Lewis was a joke (as much as I love Peele, he’s no Day-Lewis), but that doesn’t take away from the impact and seemingly final nature of the statement.

For someone like me, I only see this as great news. Get Out was one of the biggest surprises of last year, and I’d much rather see more of his work as a writer and director than as an actor. His involvement with the upcoming Twilight Zone reboot is a good start, but he’s also mentioned having a whole batch of original social horror films in the past, and we’d love to see those come to fruition.

What do you think of Peele retiring from acting? Let us know your thoughts down below!

Maybe you should wait and make sure you aren’t a one hit wonder before making such bold statements. I still think that Get Out is highly over rated. It was a nice surprise to see a comedy come out with a decent horror flick. But it didn’t say anything new to me. It was just well made.
I much prefer a sequel to Keanu.

imho, GET OUT was outta control, i’m white (duh)…but IF i was black, my takeaway from the film would be: “overly ingratiating” white liberals ARE NOT my friends. never seen keanu. sounds like i need to fix that.

white liberals are usually pretty racist people so i think he nailed it… that said I think hes a funny comic but being director just gives you so much more control over things and that can be addicting.. so i get it

Also, he’s probably super busy working on new projects, so he feels like he doesn’t have time for acting.

I liked Get Out. There are many subtle things in there that get under your skin without you even realizing it….

Apparently, the academy liked it too….I think it’s been nominated for 5 Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and Best Screenplay….cray cray. I doubt it’s going to win any of those though…

Get Out sucked. There was nothing special about it and just because the Academy liked it doesn’t make it any better. A lot of shit films have been nominated for awards over the years

        • TheOct8pus

Absolutely. The Academy is not any indicator of a film’s quality. So many shite films have been nominated or won and so many great films (I’m looking at you, Citizen Kane) have been snubbed…. however, I disagree with you that Get Out sucked. On the surface it may seem like a run of the mill, even generic film, but I think it has a lot of depth for an indie horror/comedy

    Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Jordan come back!

  • TheOct8pus

He’ll be back….he’s been on stage or in front of the camera for years – and he’s a good actor and a hilarious comic….he’ll come back. He won’t be able to help himself.
