Grand Admiral Thrawn For Live-Action Rebels Spin-Off? | LRM’s Barside Buzz

Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew Star Wars rumors

Grand Admiral Thrawn for live-action Rebels spin-off? If you have been keeping up with Star Wars news recently, then you know about this rumored live-action Rebels show. To begin with, we had several rumors of Rebels characters being cast for The Mandalorian Season 2. But since then we have also heard reports of other Rebels characters set to be cast in some spin-off show? All we really know about this show is that it is set to be led by Ahsoka Tano, i.e. Rosario Dawson.

Some fans still think there is going to be an animated sequel to Rebels. That the live-action spin-off show is something else. For me, I think the pieces fit that Rebels is getting a sequel, but it’ll be a live-action show. Today we have the latest rumored Rebels character to show up. According to scooper Daniel Richtman on his Patreon service, Lucasfilm are looking to cast Grand Admiral Thrawn for this spin-off show.

This comes on the heels of a report that Ezra Bridger is also going to be cast for the Rebels spin-off. As soon as I heard there was a chance of Ezra showing up, I figured we’d seen Thrawn as well. If you have watched Rebels, then you know the show ended with Ezra shooting Thrawn’s fleet off into hyperspace. Ezra seemed to have no idea where they were going to, so it felt almost like a sacrifice move. Wherever Ezra is, we know that post- Return of the Jedi, Ahsoka, and Sabine Wren went looking for him. It makes sense that when Ahsoka finds Ezra, she will also find Thrawn.

I’m guessing that the crux of this Rebels sequel will revolve around the search for Ezra. I, therefore, expect Ezra and Thrawn to only show up towards the end of the first season of that show. Thrawn of course, was a character made famous by the now de-canonized Star Wars EU books. However, Thrawn became canon once more when he was brought into the Rebels animated show. As for Rebels, the first Season is awful, after that though, it gets pretty good. I dislike the animation style of Rebels, and it’s too kid-friendly at times, but it was good. The idea of a slightly more mature show, with no animation concerns like Rebels excites me.

Perhaps the only bummer is that this Rebels-spin-off cannot be used to set up events of a future movie. What I mean by that is that the sequel trilogy, rubbish as it was is now canon. Maybe this Rebels sequel will help make more sense of the events of the sequel trilogy. The Clone Wars certainly helped the prequel trilogy to make more sense? I still wish we could just erase the sequel trilogy and start again though.

What do you think of Grand Admiral Thrawn for live-action Rebels spin-off? Is it inevitable at this point, and if so, who would you like to see play Thrawn? Leave your thoughts below.
