GRRM Recently Consulted On House Of The Dragon Season 3/4 Plus Met With Publishers About The Winds of Winter

GRRM recently consulted on House of the Dragon Season 3/4 whilst he was in the U.K. meeting with publishers about The Winds of Winter.

GRRM reveals he recently consulted on House of the Dragon Season 3/4 whilst he was in the U.K. meeting with publishers about The Winds of Winter.  GRRM (George R. R. Martin) is (as I’m sure you’re aware) the creator of the A Song of Ice and Fire universe upon which House of the Dragon and parent show Game of Thrones are based. Most of House of the Dragon is based on historical mythology created by GRRM in conjunction with colleagues for the book Fire & Blood. The book deals with the history of the Targaryen dynasty Martin created for his story.

House of the Dragon is a lot more than just those lore pages in Fire & Blood. It takes one period explored in that book (The Dance of Dragons) and expands it into a full drama TV series. For now we have one season released and one coming in 2024. However Martin has always said he hopes it will be no longer or shorter than four full Seasons. For now, Season 3 seems certain and I would guess Martin will get his wish of four seasons in total.

Winds of Winter and House of the Dragon

Updating his ‘not a blog‘ recently, Martin explained he was in London recently to meet with his publishers about several projects including the white whale that is The Winds of Winter.

“I also found time to meet with my British publisher, and my other British publisher, to talk WILD CARDS and A SONG OF ICE & FIRE and (of course) THE WINDS OF WINTER.”

As I’m sure you know, The Winds of Winter is the next book in the A Song of Ice and Fire series and GRRM has been writing it for many, many years now. No updates as such, perhaps we was telling the publisher to go f themselves as he was still years away? More positive fans will be hoping he was telling them it may be ready to go in 2025.

Martin explained he was able whilst in London to visit the studios and sets for House of the Dragon. He also revealed he spent two days locked in a room with the series showrunners discussing Season 3 and Season 4.

“It was not all tromping through sets, though.   I also spent two days locked in a room with Ryan Condal and his writing staff (Sara Hess, Ti Mikkel, David Hancock, and Philippa Goslett) talking about the third and fourth seasons of HOUSE OF THE DRAGON.   They were lively, fun discussions, and we got some good work done… though two days was not nearly enough.   There is so much ground to cover that I am not sure twenty days would have been enough.”

There is a rather definitive end point for this tale in Martin’s history books. The Dance ends and peace reigns for a little while at least. The main attraction for fans in House of the Dragon is working out what the truth is compared to the book. By this I mean that Martin’s history books are written as if by real characters in the universe. Ergo, anything is subject to the author’s opinion, a tale they heard that was actually made up and many other inconsistencies. In other words, we fans know the big ticket items, like who lives and dies, but we can still be surprised by how events ‘really unfolded’ in the show.

What do you think if his comments as GRRM reveals he recently consulted on House of the Dragon Season 3/4 whilst he was in the U.K. meeting with publishers about The Winds of Winter. As always, share any thoughts below.
