Guardians Of The Galaxy Game Trailer Revealed From Square Enix

Guardians of the Galaxy game

This one came out of the blue, but today we can share the first trailer for a Guardians of the Galaxy game coming from Square Enix. E3 is currently taking place and therefore lots of game reveals. However when this one popped up yesterday I was initially very excited. Guardians of the Galaxy seems like a great idea for a video game. However, after watching the reveal trailer and gameplay trailers below, my expectations were somewhat dampened. Check it out for yourself first.

As said up top, there is also a gameplay trailer which you can catch below.

The idea is great here, the execution, I’m not so sure. For a start this looks very much like a game designed for the last generation. Yeah, I’m sure there will eventually be a graphics upgrade for this generation, but it simply doesn’t look good. The character models for a start are a bit sketchy and once again you wonder why they don’t use the likeness of the characters from the MCU? Is there some contractual reason Marvel want their video games to not be connected to the MCU. Are they worried about having to make games canon? I’m not sure, but the look, the models, and the voices simply don’t make me think Guardians of the Galaxy. Not the Guardians I grew to love anyway.

When it comes to the gameplay, I can’t help also feel like I’m looking at an old game. Guardians of the Galaxy is a story focused single player game. It seems, so far, like you play as Star Lord but use the ‘old’ team orders for the rest of the crew. Again, that just feels like 2010 to me, not 2021. I’ll reserve too much judgement until the game gets into the wild. However having previously been thoroughly disappointed by Marvel’s Avengers gameplay loop, I’m not excited for this one.

As an Xbox Game Pass subscriber I could see me waiting till this comes on the service as free to play to check it out. However, that does depend on what fans say when they get hold of the game.

Share any thoughts you have on this Guardians of the Galaxy game from Square Enix below. Guardians of the Galaxy is set for release in Fall of this year.
