In a recent interview Variety spoke with Kit Harrington on his Black Knight future in the MCU. Harrington plays Dane Whitman in his MCU debut within Eternals. Although Whitman is a secondary character within Eternals, any comic fan knows he has potential to become the hero Black Knight, a future member of the Avengers. So you’d think Harrington must be signed up to some multi-project deal right? Well a, according to Harrington that’s not the case, and he says ‘nothing is certain’ with regards to Black Knight in the MCU.
Harrington began by explaining how much research he had done on the comic history of Black Knight. Initially, the Game of Thrones star hadn’t heard of the comic book character.
“No. If I’m totally honest, I hadn’t heard of the character. I had to sort of read up on him and try not to fall down too many black holes on the internet and just see what the basics were. But the the essence of the character and his powers seem to me very interesting. God knows where it’s gonna go. So I don’t know, I can’t predict whether, where, if anywhere, they’ll take the character. But the basics of him having something that seems to be cursed, I thought, had a lot of meat to get into.”

The trade then suggested that Harrington must surely know already he has a future beyond Eternals?
“Nothing is certain. That’s the first thing you learn in this industry. There is no certainty. To go in with any kind of feeling that something’s certain is setting yourself up for failure. I genuinely do go by the rule that this is the project, this is what I’m doing. I take it with the information that there’s a there’s a path and a future that could happen. But I don’t assume that that future is going to happen, because I think that’s foolish.”
I guess Marvel Studios always want to keep their options open? I’m sure the success of Eternals will not be the leading factor for Marvel, but perhaps how audiences react to Harrington in the role? However, I’m also pretty sire Feige has plans in place for Black Knight. After all, Feige did seek out a meeting with Harrington over a year before he was offered the part of Whitman, so we know plans are afoot.

Then again, even if Harrington knew exactly where he’d appear next and when, do you think he’d tell anyone? Harrington might well say ‘nothing is certain’ but he could be saying that whilst he’s signed up to a four project deal for all anyone truly knows. The smart bet is that we will be seeing Harrington as Dane Whitman again.
