This week’s NBC’s ‘Lopez vs Lopez’ episode is titled ‘Lopez vs Primos’. In Latin culture, primos or cousins can sometimes be just as valued as siblings. Oftentimes (I know from experience) there is a lot of them. While this is probably the same in every culture, I can only speak from a perspective of a Latino, who’s cousins are basically siblings.
In the ‘Lopez vs Lopez’, episode Mayan’s primos stop by to visit her and her family. Quickly, Mayan and Quinten find themselves comparing their lives to the primos. As the primos describe their lifestyles they feel like perhaps they have been missing out and want to catch up as fast as possible.

LRM Online’s Manny Gomez spoke with ‘Lopez vs Lopez’ guest stars Harvey Guillén, Chelsea Rendon, and Jessica Marie Garcia. They play Mayan’s primos.
Miguel is a pseudo-intellectual cousin who spends his time getting his doctorate in Chicano studies and bragging about the TED talk he gave on the cultural significance of the Hot Cheeto. ”Yesika” or @Hellyesika on all her socials, is Mayan’s fabulous Tik Tok-dancing social media influencer cousin who does everything for “the Gram” including giving Mayan a taste of the glamorous life. Finally, Luna is Mayan’s free-spirited cousin who travels the world in a camper and loves #vanlife, even if her only roommate is her porta-potty.
During our conversation, we talk about what it is like for them as actors to grow up watching an iconic George Lopez show, only to end up years later on a future Lopez show. George and Mayan, a once-estranged father and daughter, navigate dysfunction, reconnection and all the headaches and joy in between as they make up for lost time like only they can. With George back in the picture, he can always be counted on to provide Mayan with some unconventional parenting advice about her son, Chance — while saving a few lighthearted barbs for her boyfriend, Quinten, for good measure. Then there’s George’s ex-wife, Rosie, who hasn’t quite forgiven him, but they’re staying on good terms… mostly. In the end, the Lopez clan gets by with a little drama, a lot of love and a lifetime of laughter.
NBC’s Lopez vs Lopez airs Fridays at 8/7c on NBC and you can catch up on the series on Peacock.
