Hawkeye Director On Bringing Back Kingpin

Hawkeye director on bringing back Kingpin! I think we can dispense with spoiler tags now a week after Fisk was brought back to the MCU, if you are that far behind on Hawkeye then why are you even browsing for news? Today saw the season finale and though I won’t get into that here, we can at least talk openly about Kingpin’s return to the MCU. That reveal came at the tail end of Episode 5, though keen eyed fans had worked it out much earlier.

In a recent interview with THR, Hawkeye directors of Episode 5 Amber Templemore-Finlayson and Katie Ellwood, (aka Bert and Bertie) spoke about the return of Vincent D’Onofrio. Bert and Bertie directed episodes 3-5, but it was director of episodes 1 and 2, Jonathan Rhys, who came back to direct the finale. However the directors did get to work with D’Onofrio. I assume the scene shown on video camera in Episode 5 was actually shot by them, even though it is used again in Episode 6?

“We were lucky enough to work with him and to share time and space with him. He is the most remarkable actor, the way he holds space. That was a treat. That was one of our favorite days on set.”

“It means so much. not just logistically for the world. But just the level of intense sociopathic, evilness. (Laughs.) Which is the real stake. There have been stakes building throughout Hawkeye. It starts off very fun and games and the Tracksuits and the introduction of Maya Lopez and there’s Yelena and it just keeps getting more intense. It’s wonderful being part of this show that starts as one thing and it just escalates until these tones merge, so we can go from laughing your heart out to gripping the edge of your seat.”

I can’t deny it is great to have D’Onofrio back in the MCU to stay, or at least, I hope for a while yet. I would say, so far, I ‘preferred’ Fisk in Daredevil on Netflix. However I also have to bear in mind that this show is not about Fisk, it’s about Hawkeye and Kate. Hopefully we might get to see a little more when we get to the Echo series that’s coming, and who knows, maybe some Matt Murdock as well if the rumors are sound?

What do you think of the comments of the Hawkeye directors on bringing back Kingpin? Thoughts below as always. I will be getting into the finale of Hawkeye today also, but that will be a spoiler fest, so leave it till you’ve caught Hawkeye‘s finale.
