In one of the best Latin-themed television series, Gordita Chronicles on HBO Max is marked as one of the most talked about and funniest series.
The series is centered on a young girl from the Dominican Republic who immigrated with her family to Miami during the 1980s. As she grew up during this period, she experienced xenophobia, body image, and a major cultural adjustment. Not to mention, it’s a coming-of-age story in school for a young Latina.
Gordita Chronicles is inspired by the life of its creator Claudia Forestieri as she looked back on her childhood as a chubby, willful and reluctant Dominican immigrant.
The series star newcomer Olivia Concalves as the 12-year-old “Cucu,” along with Diana Maria Riva (Dead to Me, Sunnyside) and Juan Javier Cardenas (The Walking Dead). Dominican-American actress Dascha Polanco (Orange Is The New Black, In the Heights) narrates the series.
Brigitte Muñoz-Liebowitz served as the showrunner and executive produced by Zoe Saldana and Eva Longoria.
