HBO To Reboot Harry Potter As A TV Series

the latest news is that HBO to reboot Harry Potter as a TV series!

This sounds like the very definition of a cash grab to me. However, the latest news is that HBO to reboot Harry Potter as a TV series! The information comes from Bloomberg, who say a rebooted Potter franchise is in development as a long form streaming series. The idea, as you’d guess, would be to cover each of the books as one season of TV for a full 7 Seasons.

The report also indicates that Warner Bros. Discovery’s CEO David Zaslav and HBO chief Casey Bloys worked to convince Rowling to produce the new series.

For now there is no timeline for how fast any of this may move. However, this is less of a surprise than you might think. If you’ve been following what has come out of WB/D recently regarding Potter, then you know the franchise has been teased for expansion. Yet, at the same time, WB/D previous expansion plans are up in smoke. The third Fantastic Beasts movie failed to capture an audience again, and seems destined to end unfinished.

Instead, it seems the studio will fund Harry Potter and the quest for more cash with this rebooted series.

Trying to remain neutral there are some positives and negatives to take from this. I think most book fans would agree that there were some details missed out the movies which should not have been. This could be an opportunity to add these back in. However the main concern is that I’m just not sure the Potter fanbase is ready to see those famous roles recast. I’m not saying there is no excitement from the fanbase. However, there is also plenty of trepidation and a desire for new stories instead.

Problem is, WB/D tried new stories already. New stories written by creator Joanna Rowling herself, and they failed. I’m not even sure if the studio has the rights to just hire another writer and make up their own stories. That could mean the studio is stuck with two options, keep making Fantastic Beasts movies and losing money, or reboot the original series and try to make a buck.

I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens and how it’s received by the public. The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy announced when as a reboot?

What do you think of the news HBO to reboot Harry Potter as a TV series? As always, leave your thoughts below.
