In April of last year the eighth installment of The Fast & Furious series The Fate of the Furious. One great addition to the film was the Oscar-winning British actress Helen Mirren, who payed the role of Magdalene Shaw. The mother of the two series rouges Deckard Shaw, played by Jason Statham and Owen Shaw, played by Luke Evans.
Even though she was in the film for a short period of time, Magdalene’s character makes quite the impression as she is portrayed as the real power broker in the Shaw family. She is enlisted by Dom, played by Vin Diesel, to help him recover his kidnapped son. It was a smart move by the films creative team to leave her background open, leaving the possibility to explore that family in a future film. But would Mirren do another Fast & Furious film?
Thanks to Yahoo! we have an answer. During the press day for her upcoming film titled The Leisure Seeker, she was asked if she would return to The Fast & Furious series. Here’s what she said:
“I hope so. I’m sort of quietly maneuvering. But I love it, it would be brilliant. I love that character.”
With that said she also stated that it was “essential” that if she would return she wants to drive a fast car.
Director for Fate of the Furious, F. Gary Gary, would surely be on board with Mirren returning for a future film, which he commented on during a Facebook Live interview saying, “What can I say? She is the queen… She’s a lot of fun. … She’s dope.”
With two different Fast & Furious films being developed there are certainly opportunities for Mirren. The ninth chapter of the series is scheduled for April of 2020. Also, there is a spinoff featuring Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham which is speculated for 2019.
