Henry Cavill’s Superman is the DC character that launched the DCEU back in 2013’s Man of Steel. He also starred in the sequel to that, Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice in 2016. Finally we saw him and all his CGI glory in 2018’s Justice League. After that many thought that he was done with the role as Warner Bros. doesn’t seem to be developing a Man of Steel 2 film.

Despite the lack of a solo film, multiple sources including Deadline and comicbook.com are reporting that Henry Cavill is in talks to reprise his role as Clark Kent aka Superman in the DCEU. The reports compare the deal to the same way Marvel Studios uses Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk in the MCU. Possibly playing supporting roles and or cameo appearances in other superhero films.
It’s rumored that this new deal with WB is the reason that Cavill made an appearance on Zack Snyder’s live stream watch last week of Man of Steel. Currently WB has not made any comments on the deal.
With Wonder Woman 1984 and Suicide Squad completed it’s unlikely he would appear in either of them. Also he is not expected to show up in Matt Reeve’s The Batman either. With those out of the picture other possibilities are Shazam 2, Black Adam, or Aquaman 2. These films are next up on the list for Warner Bros. once restrictions are lifted.

I am happy that Cavill will continue as Superman. I’ve always thought that he did very well in the role. I think that his character deserves a lot more than features in other character’s films. But that probably isn’t in the hands of the studio and for the time being took what they could get with Cavill. Who knows? Things could change and soon we’ll be talking about the next Superman film.
