Henry Cavill Wanted To Flesh Out Superman’s Good Side More And He Still Does!

In a recent interview Dwayne Johnson blames previous DC leadership for not getting Henry Cavill back sooner.

Henry Cavill wanted to flesh out Superman’s good side more in the DCEU. Thankfully, if WB is listening, he still does! Despite me not being a huge fan of this version of Superman, I am a fan of Cavill in the role. I thought Man of Steel was a decent movie, I just didn’t like the death of Jonathan Kent. I felt it was a better character development tool to have Jonathan die of something Clark cannot fix. However I didn’t care much for Batman V Superman and the version of both characters in that film. Then when it comes to Justice League, Cavill’s Superman was a bit weird before turning the tide at the end.

I know Snyder’s original idea was to then get into a dark version of Superman. For me, we’d had enough of that already. I think to do a true Superman turning bad story, you first have to build him up as the big hero. It’s only then that turn has the emotional impact on an audience it should do, and the eventual guaranteed redemption or reversal. It seems Cavill agrees and if the studio is willing it seems like Cavill is willing to make that happen still. Here is what Cavill said in a recent interview with GQ. “I was very keen on really fleshing out Superman’s early stages of his journey first,” said the actor. “We had Man of Steel, and then we went quite a bit darker with Batman v Superman. And if he were to succumb to the Anti-Life Equation, and become bad Superman, I really wanted to make sure we saw the hero Superman, and we saw the true symbol of hope, the beacon of light, before we went down the path of darkness and then redemption. It’s still something that I am very keen to flesh out.”

I still don’t think there’s anyone else out there that be a better Superman. Cavill just needs better written projects to work with in my opinion. So Henry Cavill wanted to flesh out Superman’s good side, and I agree with him. What about you? Leave any thoughts you have below.
