Here’s What Happened At The Disney+ D23 Presentation | D23 2019

Walt Disney Studios Chairman Bob Iger has called Disney+ the future of the company. This much anticipated Netflix-slayer is just months away from debuting on your devices. And with its imminence, it makes sense that Disney finally let us peek behind the curtain for a glimpse at what’s in store. LRM Online was in attendance at D23 Expo 2019 for the Disney Plus Presentation. Here’s what happened:

A Musical number from High School Musical: The Musical: The Series jump-started the event into high gear. Marching band drums paraded the isles as the cast sang on stage. Yvette Nicole Brown emerged to greet guests as the host of the presentation. Then Kevin Mayer — the guy running the show at Disney+ — began the pitch…

Keven Mayer mentions they will not only have Fox properties but also all the Pixar films, Star Wars, Marvel, the entire Disney animated lineup from the vault, and Disney live-action films. He then showed a trailer for the platform.

A Phineas and Ferb movie is coming to Disney+— Phineas and Ferb The Movie: Candice Against the Universe. As well — as well as a brand new Lizzy McQuire series. Hillary Duff took the stage to talk about the series. She’s an older Lizzy in NYC.

Apparently High School Musical: The Musical: The Series is the most meta series of all time. It’s about kids at the real high school who put on a production based on the show? They showed a BTS reel for the show.

Yvette came back out and introduced Tony Haal for his new shorts Forky Asks A Question. They showed one of the shorts. It was hilarious! Can’t wait for it to hit.

Next up is Monsters At Work. The stars of the show came out to introduce their characters. He plays a scarer who shows up for work the day Monsters Inc. switches to laugh power. Sounds like he might have a rough time trying to adapt to the new way of life.

Kevin Feige came out next. Marvel time…

He recalled Infinity War being announced two years ago at D23 Expo. Ashley Bradley and Director Ryan Andrews take the stage to talk What If? For us. Marvel Zombies, Captain Carter played by Hailey Atwell.

Loki series was next. Writer and Director of the series was brought out to talk about the show. Michael Walter — the show’s writer — talked about the show answering the questions of where Loki went after stealing the Cosmic Cube, can he make a friend, and will the sun shine on him again? Tom Hiddleson had a message hyping the show.

Now on to Falcon And The Winter Soldier. Anthony Make and Sebastian Shaw take the stage to thunderous applause. Michelle Van Camp will reprise her role as Sharon Carter for the show. Also on stage was Wyatt Rustle, who plag John Walker, aka U.S. Agent.

WandaVision after that. They played a trippy sizzle reel of footage of Wanda and The Vision mixed with footage from what I think is The Dick Van Dyke Show. Paul Bettany and Elizabeth Olson take the stage. They said it’s half sitcom and half MCU epic. Kat Dennings will reprise her role as Darcy from Thor. Randall Park will reprise his role as Agent Jimmy Woo and Catherine Hobb will apparently play the nosey neighbor.

Kevin said there will be three new shows on Disney+ that wasn’t announced at ComicCon. Ms. Marvel, Moon Knight, and She-Hulk! Can’t wait for all of these!

They also showed a trailer for the reality shows of Disney+. Pixar In Real Life looks hilarious! Jeff Goldblum took the stage to talk about his show The World According To Jeff Goldblum.

A trailer was shown for it as well as Encore starring Kristen Bell.

Sean Bailey was also on stage representing Disney’s live-action films portion of Disney+.  Star Girl starring Grace Vanderwall — of America’s Got Talent fame, Timmy Failure: Mistakes Were Made, TOGO: The Untold True Story, Noelle, and Lady And The Tramp were presented. The K9 stars of the film came on stage  and presented the trailer for the film.

Some additional notable announcements: The Muppets! The first ever short-form Muppets series called Muppets Now and another show called Diary Of A Female President.

Kathleen Kennedy called to the stage to talk Star Wars! The entire Star Wars collection will be available on Disney+ within the first year. Now they’re heading into episodic television. Clone Wars will debut on Disney+ February 2020. Cassian Andor series is in pre-production and will shoot next year. No word on a title yet.

Jon Favreau took the stage with Dave Filoni to talk The Mandalorian. They talked about how it’s set when there’s no central government in the galaxy. Dave says when he read the script “it really felt like Star Wars.” The entire cast of The Mandalorian takes the stage. Exclusive stills from the show were shown as the cast spoke. Trailer looks awesome!

Kathleen Kennedy had a special surprise: Ewan McGregor took the stage! Obi-Wan series officially announced! All the scripts are written and they are ready to start shooting next year.

To close, they gave one last look at the entirety of Disney+ via a trailer showing the content and interface. What do you guys think? Personally, I will be a subscriber! I’m really excited, folks!
