Hicham Hajji Talks PTSD And Big Oil In His Film Redemption Day [Exclusive Interview]

Redemption Day

Redemption Day is a new action film from Saban Films. It’s an action film with a familiar plot of a loved one getting captured by terrorists and needing to be rescued. But writer and director Hicham Hajji makes sure that there is a lot more during his film to explore than just a rescue story.

Redemption Day stars Gary Dourdan as Brad Paxton, who is dealing with PTSD after returning from his time serving as a U.S. Marine Captain. His wife, Kate, played by Serinda Swan, does a fantastic job at being there for him, without seeming overbearing. Of course in the storyline, we also have the kidnapping of Kate by a terrorist group. One that gets rather complicated when the rescue is held up due to the politics of big oil. These themes in Redemption Day I thought were woven well.

Here is the synopsis for Redemption Day that also stars Martin Donovan, Ernie Hudson, Samy Naceri, and Andy Garcia.
Having just returned home, decorated U.S. Marine Captain Brad Paxton’s (Gary Dourdan) wife, Kate, is kidnapped by a terrorist group while working in Morocco. He is forced back into action for a daring and deadly operation to save the woman he loves.

Ahead of its release, LRM Online had the opportunity to talk with writer and director Hicham Hajji. During our conversation, we talk about those themes that were mentioned above. He even discloses a problem that his film has faced with the Algerian government. As it had been deemed Moroccan propaganda. You can check it out down below!

Saban FilmsRedemption Day will be in select theaters on January 8th, 2021. Then on On Demand and Digital on January 12th, 2021.
